About the procedure
Wrinkle blanching is an injectable procedure involving the superficial administration of Belotero filler into the dermis to smooth out fine and medium wrinkles, including areas where classic fillers are not used.
Blanching is the solution for situations where wrinkles are already visible at rest but do not yet require deep volumetric filling or surgical correction. In such cases, it is crucial not to overload the tissues but to work delicately with the quality and structure of the skin. This is where blanching provides a result unattainable by other methods.
Unlike classic contour plastics, the drug is injected as superficially as possible — into the papillary layer of the dermis — through a series of small papular injections. This allows for even smoothing of even the finest superficial wrinkles while fully preserving natural facial expressions.
Advantages of blanching
Blanching is not just another injection procedure. It is a choice justified in specific clinical situations:
- Works where other methods cannot. Wrinkles on the neck, under the eyes, on the cheeks, and in the corners of the mouth are areas where standard fillers are either not used or produce an unnatural result. Belotero blanching is designed specifically for these zones.
- Facial expressions remain alive. No “freezing” effect — the face looks natural, with no signs of intervention.
- Seamless integration into the skin. Thanks to the unique CPM matrix of Belotero, the product is evenly distributed in the dermis without risk of migration or lumps.
- Hydration from within. The hyaluronic acid in the product restores the skin’s water balance — the effect is noticeable not only in smoothing but also in skin quality.
- Minimal rehabilitation period. In most cases, there is no bruising or swelling, and injection marks are practically invisible.
How to know if blanching is right for you?
Blanching is not a universal procedure. It provides the best results in clearly defined situations.
Blanching may be right for you if:
- wrinkles are already visible at rest, but they are still shallow
- the skin is thin and delicate, and there is a risk of an unnatural result from classic fillers
- you are concerned about wrinkles under the eyes, on the neck, or around the mouth
- you want to smooth wrinkles without changing facial expressions
- a maximally natural result without a “filled face” effect is important to you
Blanching may be ineffective if:
- wrinkles are deep and were formed a long time ago
- there is a pronounced loss of volume (cheeks, cheekbones, nasolabial folds)
- the main cause of wrinkles is active facial expressions (in this case, botulinum therapy is more effective)
In such cases, the doctor may suggest a different technique or a combined program to achieve a predictable and natural result.
What products are used for wrinkle blanching?
The procedure is performed exclusively with Belotero line fillers manufactured by Merz Pharma (Germany) based on hyaluronic acid.
Two products are used for blanching:
- Belotero Soft — for superficial fine lines: “crow’s feet,” under-eye wrinkles, and fine lines around the mouth. It is injected into the upper layer of the dermis.
- Belotero Balance — for medium-depth wrinkles: expression lines, forehead wrinkles, and nasolabial folds. It is injected into the middle layer of the dermis.
Both products are available with lidocaine for a comfortable procedure. The choice of product is always made by the doctor after an in-person examination.

Blanching, Botox, or fillers — which one to choose?
These are three different tools, and each one solves its own specific task:

Often, the best result is achieved through a combination of techniques — this is determined individually during a consultation.
When blanching is not the best solution: if wrinkles are deep or there is a significant loss of volume, blanching alone will not provide the desired effect. In such cases, the doctor will suggest a more appropriate technique or a combined program.
Contraindications for blanching
- Pregnancy and lactation period
- Acute infectious and viral diseases, including herpes in the acute phase
- Inflammation, rashes, or open wounds in the injection area
- Individual intolerance to the drug components
- Tendency toward keloid scarring
- Blood clotting disorders or the use of anticoagulants
- Oncological diseases
- Autoimmune diseases in the acute phase
How to maintain the effect after blanching?
The effect lasts on average 6–10 months depending on skin type, area, and overall health. Main recommendations:
- Daily SPF protection — ultraviolet light accelerates the breakdown of hyaluronic acid.
- Maintenance procedures as recommended by the doctor — repeat blanching or complementary techniques.
- Following the doctor’s recommendations for the first 7 days after the procedure.
