Cutera Pearl Laser Resurfacing

The laser resurfacing procedure for the face and neck is not a new or groundbreaking service. For decades, cosmetologists have been using laser devices to rejuvenate the skin and eliminate minor imperfections. The most common technologies include:

CO₂ Laser. This was the original laser used for facial resurfacing. The CO₂ laser penetrates deeply into the dermis, affecting surrounding tissues and stimulating active regeneration. Essentially, it creates a controlled burn. While the procedure can deliver excellent results, it also has numerous drawbacks. The first is the extended preparation and recovery period. Healing after CO₂ laser peeling can take up to a month. During this time, patients cannot use cosmetics and often avoid public places due to intense redness. Immediately after the procedure, patients usually remain in a clinic for several days. During recovery, fever may occur and the treated areas require careful maintenance. Many clients who underwent CO₂ laser resurfacing experienced complications such as:

• Persistent redness (hyperemia) lasting up to a month

• Scarring

• Hyperpigmentation

• Infectious inflammation

Due to these issues, many aesthetic clinics are increasingly moving away from CO₂ technology.

Pearl Laser. A next-generation technology that is significantly more delicate and gentle. After a Cutera Pearl laser peel, recovery typically takes 7–10 days (about 5–7 days for the face, and slightly longer—up to 10 days—for the neck). This is the only laser device with a handpiece diameter specifically designed for working on small, delicate areas such as around the eyes and mouth, or small scars (under 1 cm).

1. Minimal recovery period, unlike other types of laser resurfacing (such as CO₂) [2], which require at least 14 days of recovery. Recovery takes place at home, unlike CO₂ treatments, which typically require in-patient care.

2. Overheating protection. There is minimal risk of complications or inflammation. The device prevents dermal burns and damage to surrounding tissues, which significantly speeds up skin regeneration.

3. Safety. The laser impulse does not affect surrounding tissues and does not penetrate deeply, which ensures a short rehabilitation period. At the same time, treatment quality and effectiveness are preserved, with visible results lasting up to one year. [3]

4. Gradual effect. The synthesis of new elastin and collagen is not instantaneous. The laser triggers cellular renewal, and the lifting and rejuvenating effects intensify over the next 1.5 months, with results lasting at least one year. [4] Laennec infusions may be recommended as a complement to comprehensive rejuvenation programs. This approach is aimed at supporting regenerative processes, improving skin quality, and providing a comprehensive approach to age-related skin changes.

5. Bacteriostatic effect. During the laser peel, a protective film forms on the skin’s surface, reducing the risk of infection. Additionally, the skin’s regenerative system and local immunity are activated, promoting faster healing.

Laser skin resurfacing is not performed in the following cases:

• Herpetic lesions in the area of laser exposure

• Less than 14 days after dermal filler or contouring procedures

• Pregnancy and breastfeeding

• Oncological (cancerous) diseases

• Epilepsy and neurological disorders

• A large number of moles in the treatment area

• Active-phase acne

• Autoimmune diseases or chronic dermatitis
